Let me take a moment of your time. This bill is wrong. Women know what they are doing yet they have to have counseling, procedures and get ridiculed for many different reproductive healthcare. The same is not true for men.

I needed to get a vasectomy because my wife is unable to use any type of birth control and I am of an age where having children is not practical any longer. In order for her to have her tubes tied, which was her original choice, she needed counseling for three months in order for any procedure to be done if she could even find a physician to do it. Yet to have a vasectomy all I had to do was call a doctor I had never even met and set an appointment for the procedure. That doctor didn’t know or care about my medical history.

The “simple” procedure went wrong and I suffered severe swelling, discoloration, pain, and even had to have a second procedure done to “correct the problem.” 8 weeks later I was lucky enough to find that everything was fine, or would be eventually. Yet in order to have this simple in office procedure all I had to do was set an appointment. My wife would have to go through a plethora of things for the same result with many procedures that are not as invasive or risky. This is because she is female and I am male. In essence I am being told by my doctors and the commonwealth of PA that I have the right to make risky decisions about my healthcare and reproductive rights and she does not.

Stop trying to tell women that they are less than. Stop trying to govern the rights of people, especially women because of this or that. The law is that we are all equal. Start treating women as equals. If someone is against abortion for any reason they do not need to have one. However, my wife has the right to make her own judgments about her body and her healthcare choices. Stop this legislation and allow her the right to make her own decisions.
